Community Information and Communication Support Centre

Who are we?

CAICC was established in 2006 as a programme to support centres engaged in information and communication at community level. It aims to respond to their development needs and consolidate the national network that binds them together. Through an emphasis on the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), CAICC contributes to improving its local partners’ quality of production and deepening their role: to inform, communicate, defend press freedom and freedom of expression, and promote good governance.

CAICC serves a network comprising over 100 community radios, community multimedia centres (CMCs) and telecentres of various types and origins, operating in all corners of the country.

Our Strategic Objectives

  • Strengthen the community ICT network for it to become more united, proactive and responsible;
  • Increase the capacities of CMCs, community radios, telecentres and other community ICT initiatives to enable them to meet the information and communication needs of the communities they serve more effectively;
  • Raise consciousness among the communities about the potential of ICTs to help citizens make use of their rights and freedoms and to play a role in their own development;
  • Develop and consolidate CAICC’s internal organisation and operations.
